The Rivers State Judiciary has issued a strong rebuttal against a publication by Newsweek Electronic Media Channel, which claimed that the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Hon. Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, is set to embark on a one-year recess leave.
Describing the report as “malicious, misleading, false, and baseless,” the Judiciary made it clear that no such announcement was made, nor is there any provision for such an extended leave in the judicial system.
In a press release signed by the Chief Registrar, David D. Ihua-Maduenyi, Esq., the Judiciary explained that judicial officers follow a well-established vacation schedule, which includes only the Christmas Vacation, Easter Vacation, and Annual Vacation.
The statement stressed that the concept of a “one-year recess leave” is completely foreign to the judicial calendar and does not exist within the framework of the Rivers State Judiciary.
“The Chief Judge did not at any time announce nor intend to announce embarking on any recess or extended recess leave by whatsoever name called,” the Judiciary declared, urging the public to disregard the misleading publication.

Beyond refuting the claim, the Judiciary has taken a firm stance against the false report by ordering the author, Jake Clifford, and the publishers of Newsweek Electronic Media Channel to retract the story immediately.
The statement warned that failure to do so would attract legal action, as the Judiciary will not tolerate any attempt to spread falsehoods that could undermine public trust in the state’s judicial system.
The Rivers State Judiciary emphasized the importance of factual reporting, urging media organizations to verify information before publication.
It reassured the public of its commitment to upholding judicial integrity and ensuring that misinformation does not create unnecessary panic or confusion.
Residents and stakeholders were advised to rely only on official communications from the Judiciary for accurate information regarding judicial officers and their activities.
