The Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi has warned that a world where every country prioritizes itself over global cooperation would lead to instability, saying, “The law of the jungle would reign again.”
Speaking at a news conference in Beijing during China’s annual legislative meetings, Wang criticized US President Donald Trump’s “America First” policy, warning that smaller nations would suffer if global powers abandoned international norms. He argued that major countries should uphold global responsibilities instead of using power to “bully the weak.”
Addressing the US-China trade war, Wang dismissed any notion that Washington could pressure Beijing while maintaining good relations, calling such an approach “two-faced” and damaging to trust. His comments come after Trump’s decision to double tariffs on Chinese imports, further escalating tensions between the world’s two largest economies.

Wang also defended China’s growing ties with Russia, describing them as a “stabilizing force” in a chaotic world. While reaffirming China’s claimed neutrality on the Ukraine war, he reiterated Beijing’s shared stance with Moscow against NATO expansion, subtly blaming Western policies for the conflict.
On the Middle East, Wang criticized Trump’s proposal for the US to take control of Gaza and redevelop it into a “Middle Eastern Riviera.” Instead, he called for an immediate ceasefire, increased humanitarian aid, and Palestinian self-governance.
China’s diplomatic push comes as Beijing seeks to position itself as a more stable and responsible global power, contrasting with Washington’s shifting foreign policy under Trump.
