A non-governmental organization, Blessing Projects, has awarded scholarships to 100 girls from Iregwe Chiefdom in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Country Manager of the organization, Mr. Lawrence Zongo, announced this on Monday in Miango after presenting admission letters to the beneficiaries.
The event was organized by the Women Wing of the Iregwe Development Association as part of the 2025 International Women’s Day celebrations.
The scholarship covers full tuition for the beneficiaries to pursue their National Certificate in Education at the National Teachers Institute, Miango study center. Many of the recipients are orphans who lost their parents in recent attacks on the community.
Zongo expressed concern over the educational challenges faced by young girls in conflict-hit areas, stating that over 5,000 girls in Iregwe Chiefdom are unable to continue their education beyond secondary school. He described the initiative as a step toward bridging the gap and equipping young women with the skills to secure a better future.

“Education is a fundamental human right, yet many Nigerian girls, especially in conflict zones, are systematically denied this opportunity,” he said.
The organization has already paid N8 million in tuition fees for the beneficiaries and plans to extend the initiative to other communities. In addition to scholarships, it is also training 13 young girls in tailoring to empower them with vocational skills.
Mrs. Mary Dick-Phar, National President of the IDA Women Wing, commended Blessing Projects for the support and urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity.
She highlighted the plight of widows and orphans in Iregwe Chiefdom, noting that over 1,750 women had lost their husbands, with 452 killed in recent attacks. The region also has more than 8,744 orphans in need of support.
“We are grateful for this intervention, and I urge the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously,” she advised.
