The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued an arrest warrant on Justice Adolphus Enebeli, Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, after he failed to appear before the House within a 72-hour deadline.
The arrest warrant, issued during Monday’s plenary, relates to Enebeli’s role in overseeing the October 5, 2024, local government elections, which were annulled by the Supreme Court.
The Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, is seeking to investigate Enebeli’s conduct regarding the election.
This latest development adds a new layer to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. Governor Siminalayi Fubara, in a statement on Sunday, called for dialogue with the Assembly members on how to implement the Supreme Court’s ruling.

In a separate matter, the Nigerian Supreme Court had previously barred the Central Bank of Nigeria and other agencies from releasing funds to the Rivers State government, citing alleged non-compliance with court orders.
The Court also dismissed Fubara’s appeal challenging the legitimacy of the Amaewhule-led Assembly, ordering Amaewhule to resume duties with the duly elected members.
In the wake of the annulment of the October 5 poll, Enebeli has announced a new date for the Local Government election, set for August 9, 2025.
