The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested popular TikTok influencer, Murja Kunya, for alleged abuse of the Naira.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement released by the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Monday.
The anti-graft agency stated that Kunya was detained for allegedly spraying Naira notes for fun while staying in a hotel room at Tahir Guest Palace in Kano State.
The EFCC also disclosed that Kunya’s arrest followed her evasion of an earlier administrative bail granted in February after she failed to appear in court.

The statement noted, “Kunya was initially arrested in January 2025 for violating the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, which prohibits the abuse and mutilation of Naira notes. She was granted bail pending her arraignment in court, but failed to honor her appearance, evading legal proceedings.”
After several weeks of investigation and surveillance, EFCC operatives successfully re-arrested Kunya on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
She is currently in custody at the Kano Zonal Directorate of the Commission, awaiting her arraignment.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to enforcing laws safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s currency, warning against the spraying, mutilation, or abuse of Naira notes at social events.
