Twelve inmates reportedly bolted from the Federal Correctional Center in Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, in the early hours of Monday, prompting immediate security alert.

The Kogi State Government has confirmed the incident, emphasizing its commitment to restoring order and preventing future breaches.

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, described the jailbreak as unfortunate, highlighting concerns over how the inmates escaped without causing structural damage.

He assured residents that a full-scale investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances behind the escape and identify any internal sabotage.

Security agencies swiftly responded to the situation, launching a manhunt for the fleeing inmates.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed the State Security Adviser to collaborate with the correctional facility and other security agencies to prevent similar incidents. Measures are being put in place to reinforce security across all correctional centers in the state.

The Kogi state government has reiterated its commitment to supporting federal security agencies by providing logistics and other essential resources. Authorities are working to ensure that security operations remain efficient and proactive in tackling threats to public safety.

Fanwo urged residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear. He assured them that the situation is under control and that security remains a top priority for the government.

While investigations continue, security operatives have intensified surveillance around the area, urging the public to report any suspicious movements. Efforts to recapture the escapees are ongoing, with authorities determined to bring them back into custody.
