Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo  has described the gruesome killing of 16 hunters in Udune, Uromi Local Government Area as barbaric and unacceptable.

Okpebholo, during a condolence visit to Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State on Monday, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that those responsible for the attack faced justice.

The governor stated that President Bola Tinubu had directed the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice. He emphasized that security agencies had already launched investigations and were making progress in apprehending the culprits.

“So far, 14 suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings,” Okpebholo disclosed. “Security measures have been strengthened to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of our people.”

Describing the attack as disturbing, he stressed that Nigeria values the sanctity of human life. He noted that such acts of violence contradict the fundamental principles of society, which are deeply rooted in both Islamic and Christian teachings.

Governor Yusuf commended Okpebholo for his swift action in addressing the security situation and urged that those arrested be publicly paraded to bring relief to the victims’ families and ensure accountability.

Yusuf also called for fair compensation for the families of the victims, emphasizing the need for justice. He praised President Tinubu for his prompt intervention and commitment to ensuring that those responsible faced the full weight of the law.

As the investigation continues, security agencies have intensified efforts to prevent further violence while working to restore peace in the affected area.
