The Ogun State Governor’s Elders Advisory Council has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for adopting Tai Solarin University of Education, TASUED, as a federal institution.
The council also praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for initiating the process that led to the federal government’s decision to take over the university. Speaking at the Valleyview Auditorium, Government House, Oke-Igbein, the elders urged the federal authorities to retain the university’s name in honor of the late educationist, Tai Solarin.
A motion advocating the preservation of the institution’s name was moved by Chief (Hon) Dipo Akingbade and seconded by Dr. Rasheed Adenusi. Akingbade emphasized the significance of keeping the name unchanged, stating that Tai Solarin’s legacy in education extended beyond Ogun State to the entire country.
“I want to commend Mr. President for this great step. The adoption of TASUED by the federal government is a significant development. I also congratulate Governor Abiodun for making this happen during his tenure,” he said.
He further proposed that the council formally write to the President to express their appreciation. “The President recognizes the importance of this council, and we must communicate our delight over this remarkable decision,” Akingbade added.
Chairman of the council, Chief Olu Okuboyejo, described the federal takeover of TASUED as a welcome development, highlighting the benefits it would bring. He noted that the university, previously funded entirely by the Ogun State government, would now receive federal support, allowing for improved infrastructure and increased staffing.

“It is a good and wonderful decision, and I am personally happy about it. The federal government’s intervention will enable the institution to expand and improve in all aspects,” Okuboyejo stated.
The council also acknowledged the Governor’s commitment to infrastructure by moving a motion, spearheaded by Alhaji Bisi Quadri and seconded by Chief Pegba Otemolu, commending his efforts in road development. The motion appreciated Governor Abiodun for evenly distributing the recently approved 11 roads across the state’s three senatorial districts.
Security was another key issue discussed at the meeting, with the council applauding the Governor’s approval for recruiting 500 additional Amotekun personnel. They emphasized that the recruitment would strengthen security and reduce crime across the state.
Hon. Bode Adeaga, a former Ogun State House of Assembly member, also commended the federal government for appointing principal officers for the newly established Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta. He described the approval as a crucial step toward the university’s full operationalization.
In another development, the council filled vacancies left by three deceased members. Chief Pegba Otemolu was appointed to represent the Remo Federal Constituency, while Chief Dr. Rasheed Adenusi took over the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu/Ijebu North-East Federal Constituency. Senator Adegbenga Sefiu Kaka was chosen to represent Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside.
The meeting concluded with the elders reiterating their commitment to supporting policies that promote the development of Ogun State while ensuring that legacies of notable figures like Tai Solarin remain intact.
