On Monday, April 28, 2025, suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched a brutal attack on Kwaple village, near Chibok Local Government Area in Borno State, killing at least 15 mourners and abducting several others.
The victims were attending a funeral when the assailants struck, opening fire indiscriminately and setting homes ablaze.
This assault is part of a disturbing pattern of violence in the region. Chibok, in particular, has been a focal point of Boko Haram’s activities, most notably the 2014 abduction of 276 schoolgirls, which drew international condemnation and sparked the #BringBackOurGirls campaign.
The recent attack underscores the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria, despite ongoing military efforts to curb their activities.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the Nigerian military or government regarding the Kwaple incident. The number of abducted individuals remains unconfirmed, and the community is grappling with the aftermath of the tragedy.
This incident highlights the urgent need for enhanced security measures and comprehensive strategies to address the root causes of insurgency in the region.
