All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain in Oyo State, Chief Kunle Adelakun has said that the South-West geopolitical zone is on the verge of a political shake-up, with several defections from opposition parties expected to strengthen the APC.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Adelakun — son of the late Ibadan political icon Alhaji Busari Adelakun (popularly called “Eruobodo”) — predicted a significant wave of defections into the APC that would reposition the party as the dominant political force in the region.

He lauded the recent high-profile defections of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa from the People’s Democratic Party to the APC, calling their decisions “strategic, timely, and necessary for national political realignment.”

“The APC train is unstoppable,” Adelakun said. “Those with foresight know that the journey ahead is transformational. We are entering a new era of governance and political vision under President Tinubu.”

Adelakun noted that internal talks are ongoing with key figures from other parties across South-West states, with plans to merge structures into the APC.

He described these negotiations as a win-win for all stakeholders, which he believes will solidify the region’s political alignment with the federal center.

“The move toward the APC is driven by the understanding that national development requires synergy between the centre and the states,” he said.

“Governors with vision are aligning with Tinubu’s government to unlock development potentials in their regions.”

He emphasized that democracy under the APC-led federal government had fostered more freedom of political association, improved resource access for states, and elevated opportunities for grassroots development.

Adelakun concluded by calling on other political actors to join the movement, stating, “This is not just about politics — it’s about building a better future for our people.”
