Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has strongly indicated a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, comparing the PDP to a “faulty aircraft” that may no longer take him to his political destination.
Speaking during a Town Square meeting in the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency on Tuesday, Eno expressed concern over what he described as the PDP’s increasing instability and loss of direction. He suggested that the once-powerful party may no longer be a suitable platform for leaders seeking progress beyond 2027.
He made the remarks against the backdrop of recent high-profile defections from the PDP, including that of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other party figures who have joined the APC.
Using an analogy to illustrate his point, Eno said, “If you wanted to travel with Ibom Airline, and on the verge of taking off, it developed a fault that won’t enable it to fly, won’t you board the next available plane to take you to your destination?”

While not confirming a formal defection, the governor’s words signal a growing alignment with the APC, especially as the ruling party consolidates its influence ahead of the 2027 elections.
Eno also used the occasion to re-emphasize his administration’s commitment to grassroots engagement and citizen-focused governance.
He called on residents to continue supporting his policies and promised that their needs would be reflected in the 2026 state budget.
He stressed the importance of interacting with constituents regularly, not just during election cycles.
The governor said his government would assess community requests and prioritize them based on available resources. He assured the people that unfulfilled items would be carried over into future budget plans.
Governor Eno’s statements add to the growing uncertainty surrounding the PDP’s stability and further highlight the political momentum currently being enjoyed by the APC at both state and national levels.
