The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is investigating about 20 companies linked to Aisha Achimugu, a well-known socialite, facing charges on fraud and money laundering.
The investigation centers on an alleged $250 million fraud tied to election funds for the 2027 elections, which were entrusted to Achimugu’s care by a prominent governor.
The funds, said to be donations from influential individuals and corporations, were supposedly meant for election activities. However, they were diverted and distributed across multiple accounts registered under Achimugu’s name.
The Corporate Affairs Commission has reportedly come under pressure to alter the records of the 20 companies connected to Achimugu. According to sources, several individuals, including some lawyers, have attempted to contact the CAC to remove Achimugu’s name from the directorship of some of the companies.
This move could serve to distance Achimugu from the companies under investigation and undermine the EFCC’s efforts to trace her involvement.
These companies, which share common addresses, have allegedly been used in fraudulent activities, further deepening concerns about the legitimacy of the election funds.
Investigators have raised questions about the governor’s inability to account for the funds, which were originally placed under his custody before being handed over to Achimugu.

As the EFCC continues its investigation, these 20 companies remain central to the ongoing case, and the agency is working to uncover more details about the mismanagement of the $250 million.
The CAC’s potential role in modifying company records could have serious implications for Achimugu’s case. If any changes are made, Achimugu could potentially claim in court that she had no involvement with the companies in question, further complicating the legal proceedings.
This developing story highlights the challenges of holding individuals accountable for financial misconduct, particularly in cases involving influential political figures.
The EFCC’s efforts to follow the trail of evidence, however, are expected to shed more light on the full scope of the scandal.
