Panic gripped residents of Grow Homes Estate in the Chikakore axis of Kubwa,Abuja, after a group of heavily armed gunmen stormed the community in the early hours of Monday, abducting an unknown number of individuals and holding the estate hostage for more than an hour.
The attack, which began shortly after midnight and lasted until about 1:30am, left residents shaken and demanding urgent intervention from security agencies and government authorities.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen arrived in numbers and with sophisticated weapons, easily overpowering the local vigilante group tasked with securing the estate.
One resident recounted seeing a man and a woman being dragged away by the attackers during the chaos. However, by morning, the woman was found within the estate premises—freed under circumstances that remain unclear.
Residents said the swift but overwhelming nature of the attack revealed severe gaps in local security preparedness. “The gunmen moved freely through the estate,” one witness recounted. “It was like a planned operation. They knew where to go and whom to take. They didn’t rush. It was terrifying.”
The situation escalated when security operatives, including the police, arrived at around 1am. A fierce gun battle reportedly ensued, lasting nearly 30 minutes, but it remains uncertain whether the confrontation led to the arrest of any suspects or the prevention of further abductions.
As of the time of this report, there is no official confirmation of the total number of individuals taken, nor have the identities of the victims been released.

Residents have since issued a passionate plea to the Federal Capital Territory Administration and police authorities to bolster security in the area.
One of their primary concerns is the poor condition of the road leading into the estate, which they say hampers rapid emergency response.
“We are begging the government to fix this road so that patrol vehicles and security forces can have easy access,” a resident said. “We also appeal to the FCT administration to consider establishing a police station within this community. We need a permanent security presence here.”
The incident is the latest in a worrying pattern of kidnappings and armed attacks within the Abuja metropolis and its surrounding satellite towns.
Security agencies have yet to release a statement on the attack or provide updates on any ongoing rescue efforts.
As fears of further attacks grow, residents remain on high alert, hoping for swift action to rescue any remaining abductees and prevent future invasions.
