A sudden explosion rocked the Mararaba-Nyanya bypass in the Federal Capital Territory on Monday afternoon, prompting swift response from the FCT Police Command and deployment of its Explosive Ordinance Disposal, EOD, Unit.

In an official statement released by SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, the blast was reported at approximately 2:50 PM. Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene following a distress alert.

“Upon receipt of the report, officers of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit were immediately deployed to the scene. The affected area was swiftly cordoned off for clearance and analysis to ensure the safety of commuters and residents,” the police statement read.

One male victim was found at the scene and was rescued alive. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital where he is currently receiving medical care. Authorities have not released his identity but confirmed that his condition is being monitored.

Police confirmed that a full-scale investigation has been launched, with forensic experts working to determine the cause and nature of the explosion. While the specifics remain unclear, early indications suggest the blast may not be accidental.

“A comprehensive investigation has commenced, including detailed forensic analysis, to ascertain the exact cause and nature of the explosion,” Adeh added.

The FCT Police Command urged the public to remain calm, stressing that there is no immediate threat and that law enforcement is taking all necessary precautions to ensure continued safety in the capital territory.

The command further advised residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities, persons, or objects. Emergency lines have been provided for swift reporting:
📞 08032003913, 08028940883, 07057337653.

This incident comes amid rising concerns over public safety in the capital following a string of minor security disturbances. Though no group has claimed responsibility, authorities are leaving no possibility off the table as investigations continue.
