The Federal Government has inaugurated the Presidential Committee on the Implementation of Digital Public Infrastructure, DPI, a key step toward advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
The inauguration, held on May 27 in Abuja, sets the stage for a coordinated rollout of critical systems that will support digital identity, financial payments, and data exchange across government services.
Representing the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, emphasized that the DPI initiative is central to unlocking economic opportunities, improving public services, creating jobs, and empowering citizens.
He noted that the initiative requires a strong governance structure to ensure its effective implementation and alignment with Nigeria’s broader development goals.
Dr. Tijani called on the newly inaugurated committee to drive strategic coordination and provide direction to ensure the seamless integration of Nigeria’s digital identity systems, financial transaction platforms, and data-sharing frameworks.
He said these components are essential for innovation, secure digital services, and evidence-based governance.
Speaking at the event, the Director General of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to leveraging DPI to enhance citizen engagement and economic growth.
