Bayern Munich have officially confirmed the signing of Colombian forward Luis Diaz from Liverpool in a major summer transfer move reportedly worth up to €75 million.
The Bundesliga champions secured the services of the 28-year-old after weeks of speculation, with Diaz signing a contract that ties him to the Bavarian club until 2029.
Diaz becomes one of Bayern’s marquee signings of the summer and is expected to play a pivotal role in their attacking plans for the coming season. His arrival comes as a strategic reinforcement for the German side, especially following the serious injury to Jamal Musiala, who was recently sidelined for an extended period due to a broken leg and dislocated ankle sustained during the Club World Cup.
Announcing the deal on Wednesday, Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen praised Diaz’s abilities and his proven winning mentality: “In Luis Diaz, we have succeeded in bringing in one of the best left wingers in the Premier League,” Dreesen said. “He brings real player character from Liverpool to FC Bayern — he’s won silverware with every one of his clubs to date.”
Diaz, who joined Liverpool in January 2022 from FC Porto, enjoyed a successful spell at Anfield, helping the club win the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup. His versatility, pace, and technical flair made him a consistent attacking threat under former manager Jürgen Klopp and, most recently, under Arne Slot.
Speaking after his unveiling in Munich, Diaz expressed enthusiasm about this next chapter in his career. “I am very happy to be joining FC Bayern. This is one of the biggest clubs in the world, with a rich history and a huge fan base,” he said. “I want to help my new team with my style of football and with my passion on the pitch. My goal is to win every title possible — we will fight for it every day as a team.”

Last season, Diaz was a key figure in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign. He made 50 appearances across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and assisting several others. His form and consistency played a significant role in helping Liverpool secure their record-extending 20th English league title.
However, Diaz’s absence from Liverpool’s recent 4-2 preseason loss to AC Milan in Hong Kong further fueled transfer rumours, which have now culminated in a confirmed deal. His departure marks the end of a memorable stint at Liverpool, where he rapidly became a fan favorite due to his flair, work ethic, and crucial goals in tight matches.
Liverpool, for their part, will now look to reinforce their forward line, with manager Arne Slot expected to explore both internal options and the transfer market to fill the void left by Diaz’s exit. Young forwards like Cody Gakpo and Ben Doak may see increased opportunities, while rumors continue to swirl about potential incoming players at Anfield.
For Bayern Munich, Diaz’s arrival injects much-needed firepower into their left flank, especially given Musiala’s injury and the club’s need for additional depth in attack as they aim to reclaim the UEFA Champions League and defend their Bundesliga crown. He will join an attacking lineup that includes Leroy Sané, Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane, and Thomas Müller, giving manager Vincent Kompany an enviable array of offensive options.
Bayern have been relatively active in the summer transfer market, and Diaz is expected to be a centerpiece of their ongoing squad rejuvenation project. With his ability to cut inside from the left, take on defenders one-on-one, and finish clinically, Diaz could quickly become a fan favorite at the Allianz Arena just as he was at Anfield.
The Colombian international will wear the number 7 shirt at Bayern, previously worn by club legends such as Franck Ribéry. His debut is expected in the upcoming DFL-Supercup clash, where Bayern face RB Leipzig, providing fans a first glimpse of the high-profile signing in competitive action.
