The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of fast-rising Yoruba Nollywood actress, Omotola Odunsi.

The news of her passing surfaced on Friday and has left both fans and colleagues devastated by the shocking loss.

Omotola’s colleague, actress Bakare Zainab, broke the news on social media. Though she did not disclose the cause of death, her brief message captured the sorrow being felt within the Nollywood community: “Goodnight. Omotola rest well,” she wrote in a tribute that quickly gained traction online.

Another emotional reaction came from actress Ashabi, popularly known for her ties to controversial singer Portable.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, she recalled their last meeting and the unfulfilled dreams they had discussed. “Omoh dis one shock me oooo aunty Tola. You’re one of the best actors I’m rooting for,” she wrote. “We promised to feature each other in our next project… I remember nights you do chat to give me hope and advice. Most of your wishes we talked about didn’t even come true. GOD, we can’t question you oooo. Death is deep.”

Omotola was known for her roles in Yoruba-language films and had featured alongside top actors including Lateef Adedimeji in the popular film Lisabi. Her on-screen charisma and rising popularity had marked her as one of the promising faces of the new Nollywood era.

Her death has since sparked an outpouring of grief across social media, with many fans expressing disbelief and lamenting her loss at such a young stage in her career.

While details about the cause of her death remain unknown as of press time, tributes have continued to pour in from across the entertainment industry. Many of her peers described her as humble, hardworking, and full of potential.
