Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has forwarded the names of nominees for the Kwara State Judicial Service Commission to the House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

This move comes after weeks of public criticism over delays in reconstituting key statutory bodies. The nominees, comprising Mande Aliu Umar, Titus Olasupo Ashaolu, Lawal Victor Jimoh, and Dr. Saliu Ajia, are expected to undergo screening on September 9, 2025.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu announced the governor’s request during Tuesday’s plenary and directed the nominees to submit 35 copies of their curriculum vitae to the Clerk’s office by September 5, 2025.

The development follows a series of interventions by human rights lawyer Taofiq Olateju, who had publicly urged the governor to urgently reconstitute statutory commissions and boards. Olateju warned that the failure to reconstitute the Judicial Service Commission, whose five-year tenure expired on July 21, 2025, posed a threat to governance, transparency, and the rule of law in Kwara State.

By forwarding the new nominees, Governor AbdulRazaq has taken a crucial step towards addressing concerns and restoring leadership to the Judicial Service Commission. This move is expected to ensure compliance with legal frameworks and strengthen governance in the state, coming at a critical time for Kwara State.

The timely submission of nominees is seen as a positive response to public outcry and a demonstration of the governor’s commitment to good governance. With the screening process underway, the state awaits the confirmation of the nominees, who will play a vital role in shaping the judicial landscape of Kwara State.
