Tragedy struck at Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State on Wednesday when three police officers were killed in a deadly ambush on the outskirts of Egbe.

The incident has thrown the community into mourning and heightened concerns over rising security threats in the area.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Adeyemi Babarinde Sunday, the Executive Chairman of Yagba West, Hon. Tosin Olokun, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officers, describing them as gallant men who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

“These were courageous officers who paid the supreme price while protecting lives and safeguarding peace across Yagba West and the state at large,” the statement read.

Hon. Olokun extended condolences to the Nigeria Police Force, the families of the deceased, and their colleagues, assuring them that the sacrifices of the departed heroes would never be forgotten.

He emphasized that the people and government of Yagba West stand firmly with the bereaved in their time of grief.

In response to the attack, the chairman issued a directive ordering all herders who recently migrated into the council area to vacate the territory within 24 hours.

He stressed that this decisive action was aimed at preventing further threats to lives and property.

Olokun also pledged continued collaboration with security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators of what he described as a heinous act are tracked down and brought to justice.

While praying for the repose of the slain officers, he asked God to grant their families the strength to bear the painful loss.
