The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested 11 suspected hoodlums found in possession of dangerous weapons during a midnight operation in Mariri, Kumbotso Local Government Area.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday in Kano.
He identified the suspects as Idris Muhammad, 20; Abubakar Shuaibu, 24; Sagiru Hassan Yusuf, 25; Idris Muhammad Morata, 25; Anas Rabiu, 23; Yahaya Muhammad, 29; Khalid Idris, 28; Muhammad Adamu, 19; Muktar Auwal Muktar, 22; Salim Muktar, 18; and Saifullahi Nuhu, 18.

According  to Idris-Abdullahi, operatives intercepted the gang around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday while they were armed with cutlasses, swords and other locally made weapons.

He explained that the suspects had gone on a violent rampage after attending a local traditional festival in the area, attacking residents and dispossessing them of their valuables.

“The gang also stormed a nearby NSCDC outpost in Mariri, attacked and left one of our personnel with a fracture,” he said.

Items recovered from the suspects include six cutlasses, swords and a pair of scissors.

He said the command’s Intelligence and Investigation Department had completed investigations and the suspects would be charged in court.

Idris-Abdullahi quoted the State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan-Agalama, as reaffirming the corps’ commitment to combating criminal activities, protecting critical national assets, and ensuring public safety across Kano State.
