U.S. Olympic sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested on Thursday in Orange County, Fla., and charged with dangerous excessive speeding and booked into the Orange County Jail, according to a statement from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Richardson, 25, was pulled over by a traffic enforcement deputy for allegedly traveling more than 104 mph on a state road near Stoneybrook Parkway, police say. Richardson, the sheriff’s department said, was “dangerously tailgating and traveling across lanes of travel to pass other motorists.” Police say they identified the driver as Richardson, who was arrested and charged with “Dangerous Excessive Speeding,” which applies when a driver travels at speeds of 100 mph or more.
Her bond was set at $500, according to the sheriff’s department.
This is Richardson’s second arrest since last July, when she was arrested after getting into a heated argument with her boyfriend, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman, at the TSA security checkpoint at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, according to a police report obtained by The Athletic.

Richardson was held in custody for nearly 19 hours at the SCORE South Correctional Entity, but Coleman refused to press charges and the case was later cleared.
Richardson, a gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, apologized a couple of weeks later via Instagram, saying she spent time in “self-reflection,” is “holding herself accountable” for her actions and understands that she “put herself in a compromised situation with someone that she has deep care and appreciation for.”
Richardson tested positive for THC, the primary compound found in cannabis, in 2021 after winning the 100 meters at the Olympic Trials and was later stripped of her spot on the 2021 Olympics team. Richardson later opened up and said she used marijuana to help her cope with the news of her mother’s death days before the trials began. USA Track and Field then suspended Richardson for one month.
