The All Progressives Congress, APC, National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda has charged members of the party’s 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee to raise above partisan interest and personal sentiments.
He gave the charge on Wednesday in Abuja while inaugurating the 92-member committee.
He said the committee’s mandate was to plan and deliver a convention that would be transparent, inclusive, credible and befitting of a ruling party.
“Let’s rise above partisan interest and personal sentiment. Let the good of this party, the color of APC, guide you in every decision that you make.
“Time is of essence and I expect nothing short of excellence from each and everyone of you,” he said.
The APC national chairman said that the party’s convention was not merely a gathering, but an affirmation of its democratic values and the celebration of its internal democracy.
He said it was also a demonstration to Nigerians that APC remained the most organized, forward-looking and most viable political party in the country.
Yilwatda added that the party’s victory in the recent Federal Capital Territory Area Council election and the by-elections in Kano and Rivers States was a demonstration of the party’s capacity to deliver.
“I am particularly delighted that we have a statesman, a former Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari, leading this committee.
“He is bringing into this assignment decades of experience, unquestionable integrity and a deep understanding of party administration,” he said.
Yilwatda added that Masari’s acceptance of the responsibility to lead the committee was a further demonstration of his selfless commitment to APC and Nigeria generally.
He expressed optimism that the former Katsina governor would deliver on the committee’s mandate.
Yilwatda stated that members of the committee were carefully selected because of their proven integrity, wealth of experience and commitment to the ideals of APC.
He assured the committee of the support of the party’s National Working Committee and its entire structure to ensure its success.
“We will stand strong and ready to support you. You shall have the resources, cooperation and goodwill required to deliver on this mandate,” Yilwatda said.
In his remarks, chairman of the committee promised to deliver a credible convention.
“We whole heartedly accept this responsibility with civility, great sense of duty and commitment to the ideals and aspirations of our party,” Masari, who is also a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that former Senate President, Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, is the Vice-Chairman of the committee while the Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is the Vice-Chairman II.
