The Accord Party in Osun State has formally welcomed six members of the House of Representatives from the state into its fold.

The six legislators formally declared their movement from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the Accord Party during a stakeholders’ gathering held in Osogbo on Monday.

The announcement was made at a meeting attended by party leaders, supporters and government officials.

This recent detection is marking a significant shift in the political alignment of the state’s federal delegation.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Clement Akanni, who represents Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, confirmed that the lawmakers had resolved to leave their former platform with immediate effect.

Akanni named the defectors as Mahruf Adewale of Osogbo/Olorunda/Orolu/Irepodun Federal Constituency, Bamidele Salam of Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency, Soji Adetunji of Ikirun/Boripe/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency, Mudashiru Lukman Alani of Iwo/Ayedire/Boluwaduro Federal Constituency and Lanre Oladebo of Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency.

“On behalf of my colleagues, we have moved to the Accord Party from today,” Akanni told party members at the gathering.

He urged supporters to participate actively in the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for 15th August, 2026, advising them to remain at polling units after casting their ballots.

“Before you start voting, check the result sheet and ballot papers to be sure they are complete. After voting, stay behind and monitor your votes,” he said.

Akanni projected electoral success for the party, stating, “With our projections, 80 per cent of the votes will go to Adeleke, while the other party will get 20 per cent. We will win and all of us will be alive to witness it.”

Governor Ademola Adeleke, who addressed the gathering, explained that his earlier decision to leave the PDP was influenced by internal challenges within the party.

“I love PDP but I had to leave to avoid being trapped in my re-election bid,” Adeleke said. “We consulted widely and prayed over it, and we were guided to the Accord Party.”

The governor encouraged his supporters to remain committed to his campaign, saying, “You should vote massively for Accord Party, then victory is guaranteed for us. I thank the PDP family and I thank Accord Party for accepting me.”

Also present at the event was former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, who called on party faithful to remain dedicated ahead of the poll.

The latest development leaves Senator Lere Oyewumi, representing Osun West Senatorial District, as the only federal lawmaker from the state elected on the PDP platform.

The governor had earlier joined the Accord Party in December 2025 and subsequently secured its governorship ticket, while twenty-five members of the Osun State House of Assembly elected under the PDP have also announced their defection to the same party.

On February 14, 2026, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state welcomed two senators and three House of Representatives members into their fold.
