The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has confirmed the death of three workers in a lone accident along Oke-Onigbin and Omu-Aran road, after the May Day Celebration in Kwara.

The Sector Commander of FRSC, Kwara Command, Kabir Kazeem, confirmed the incident during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Ilorin. He said the accident occurred around 3 p.m. when the victims were returning home after participating in the annual event.

“A commercial bus, Black colour Mazda, with registration number ARP627KY was on Friday, involved in a lone accident due to over-speeding.

“Seven people were involved in the accident, comprising three males and four females, but unfortunately, three females died immediately,” he said.

Kazeem noted that FRSC officers rushed to the scene and took the injured passengers and the deceased bodies to the nearest hospital in Omu-Aran.

He said the driver lost control when one of the vehicle tyres burst on speed, consequently causing the devastating accident.

The Sector Commander said that the command would continue to sensitize drivers on safety while driving and urged passengers to always caution drivers on the road.

NAN gathered that the deceased were members of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria, MHWUN, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara.

The Chairman of Ekiti Local Government Council, Mr. Awelewa Gabriel, described the incident as very “painful” and expressed his condolences to the deceased families.

“Our hearts are heavy. These were dedicated professionals who left their homes to celebrate the dignity of labor, only to meet this unfortunate fate on their way back.

“We have lost patriots who served our communities with compassion and commitment,” he said.

The Chairman assured that the council would work with the state government and relevant agencies to provide support for the affected families and assist with the medical expenses of the injured.
