A Sokoto State High Court has sentenced three men, including a Nigerien national, to death by hanging after convicting them on charges bordering on terrorism and arms proliferation.
The convicts — Yusuf Muhammad, also known as Sallau; Jabbi Alhaji Yalle, identified as a Nigerien; and Kabiru Muhammad — were arrested on June 13, 2025, by the Department of State Services’ Counter-Terrorism Unit over alleged involvement in cross-border crimes, arms trafficking and terrorism.
In his judgment, Justice Bello found the three defendants guilty on all counts and ordered that they be executed by hanging. The court also directed that all monetary exhibits recovered from the convicts be forfeited to the Federal Government.

The judgment in Sokoto comes barely a week after a Federal High Court in Katsina sentenced a female arms courier, Hauwa’u Mukhtar, to death. She had been arrested by the DSS while allegedly transporting 438 rounds of ammunition to a bandit kingpin.
Earlier, four suspects — Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, Al Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik and Abdulhaleem Idris — were also sentenced to death by a Federal High Court in Abuja for their roles in the attack on worshippers in Owo, Ondo State, which left more than 40 people dead.
Similarly, last week, a High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, sentenced Jibrin Halilu to death by hanging after he was arrested by the DSS and charged with conspiracy, kidnapping and the murder of a hotelier in Obajana, Kogi State.
