Team Nigeria placed seventh on the final medal table as the 2026 Commonwealth Games, CWG, concluded at Glasgow, Scotland.

Nigeria won 24 medals — ten gold, seven silver and seven bronze — across four sports and was the highest-ranking African nation on the medal table.

Athletics produced the most laurels for Nigeria with Samuel Ogazi, Ezekiel Nathaniel and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi winning the country’s first-ever CWG gold medals in men’s 400m, men’s 400m hurdles and men’s shot put respectively.

Goodness Nwanchukwu defended her women’s discus throw F42-44/F61-64 title to win gold.

Udodi Onwuzurike, Ruth Usoro and Jessica Oji won silver in the men’s 200m, women’s long jump and women’s shot put events.

Tobi Amusan and Kayinsola Ajayi settled for bronze in the women’s 100m hurdles and the men’s 100m race. Temitope Adeshina won Nigeria’s first CWG medal in the high jump in over 70 years when she clinched bronze in the women’s event.

Ella Onojuvwevwo also won bronze in the women’s 400m before helping the team to another third place in the mixed 4x400m relay. The men’s 4x100m team had been awarded silver until a review downgraded the medal to bronze.

Athletes from para-powerlifting, weightlifting and judo also added to the medal haul.

Australia topped the medals table with 171 medals, with 70 gold, while England finished second with 110 laurels. Canada, India, Scotland and New Zealand completed the top 6 in that ascending order.

The 2026 CWG was a scaled-back edition compared to its predecessors, with only 3000 athletes competing for 215 gold medals. The 2022 edition in Birmingham had over 5000 athletes with 280 medal events.

Glasgow had stepped in to host the Games at the last minute after Victoria, Australia, pulled out of the responsibility in July 2023.
