Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over a suspicious credit into one of his private bank accounts, warning that the incident may point to a serious breach of confidential banking information.
Atiku disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, describing the transaction as unauthorized and deeply troubling.
According to the statement, an individual unknown to the former vice president transferred money into his personal bank account with the narration “Contribution Electioneering Campaign.”
The former vice president said neither he nor his campaign team requested, approved or had any prior knowledge of the payment, stressing that the transaction was carried out without their consent.
He noted that the account involved is a strictly private one whose details are not publicly available, raising questions about how an unknown individual obtained such confidential banking information.
Atiku described the development as a matter of public concern, warning that if the private banking information of a former vice president and presidential candidate could be accessed without authorization, then the financial privacy of ordinary Nigerians could also be at risk.
He said the incident has heightened fears about the security of sensitive personal information held by financial institutions and other organizations with access to customers’ confidential records.

The former vice president also expressed concern that the account details may have been obtained through individuals with privileged access to confidential financial information, describing such a possibility as a serious abuse of trust if proven.
According to him, any unauthorized disclosure of customers’ banking details could expose account holders to criminal activities such as kidnapping, terrorism, banditry, fraud and other security threats.
Atiku said relevant security agencies had been notified of the suspicious transaction and urged them to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the source of the payment and how his private banking information became accessible.
He further described the incident as one of several suspicious developments occurring ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant as political activities gather momentum.
The former vice president also appealed to the public not to be distracted by what he described as attempts to tarnish his reputation through acts aimed at undermining his credibility.
According to him, such tactics have failed in the past and would not distract him from pursuing his political objectives or his commitment to offering solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
Atiku reaffirmed his determination to continue engaging Nigerians on issues of governance, economic recovery and national development, insisting that he remains focused on providing credible leadership ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
