The Coalition of African Democratic Congress, ADC, Youth and Women Support Groups in Adamawa has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, to reinstate Mr. Omar Suleiman as the ADC governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.
The coalition made the demand on Thursday at a press briefing in Yola, where its spokesperson, Mr. Mohammed Alli, expressed concern over alleged moves to replace Suleiman with another aspirant.
Alli described Suleiman as the “mandate of the people of Adamawa ADC,” saying he enjoys broad support among party delegates across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
“We respectfully give a 48-hour ultimatum for the reinstatement of Mr. Omar Suleiman as the ADC governorship candidate.
“We also call on those behind the attempt to replace him to apologize to the party faithful in Adamawa,” he said.
According to Alli, Suleiman has established political structures, mobilized supporters and strengthened the confidence of party members, candidates and voters ahead of the 2027 election.
He warned that removing the candidate at this stage could trigger disaffection and division within the party and potentially lead to mass defections among ADC members and candidates across the state.
Alli further expressed concern that any change in the governorship candidacy could affect the party’s National Assembly, State Assembly and local government candidates.

He said grassroots stakeholders across Adamawa had overwhelmingly identified with Suleiman as the party’s governorship candidate.
The coalition spokesperson also said Suleiman had attracted support across ethnic and religious groups in the state, describing the development as evidence of his acceptance among party members and supporters.
Alli therefore appealed to the NWC, led by Sen. David Mark, to urgently reinstate Suleiman and disregard any attempt to substitute his name with another aspirant who, according to him, lost the governorship primary.
He urged the party leadership to protect the unity of the ADC in Adamawa by respecting what the coalition described as “the people’s mandate.”
According to Alli, the ADC should uphold the principles of internal democracy, justice and respect for the will of its members.
He expressed optimism that the reinstatement of Suleiman would strengthen the party’s structure in Adamawa and improve its chances of securing victory in the 2027 governorship election.
