The Nigerian Army has rescued 14 victims during an operation targeting terrorists in Magazu Village, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation followed intelligence received by troops of the 1 Brigade at the Forward Operating Base, Tsafe, about terrorist activities around the community on August 25.
According to an operational update made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja, the troops immediately mobilized to the area after receiving the information.
On reaching the community, the soldiers engaged the terrorists in a confrontation, forcing them to abandon their operation and flee into the surrounding bush.
The troops subsequently conducted a search of the area as part of efforts to locate civilians who may have been caught up in the terrorists’ activities.
During the operation, the soldiers discovered and rescued 14 victims from the terrorists’ captivity. The victims were subsequently taken to safety following the successful intervention by the troops.
The Army said one of the rescued victims sustained a gunshot wound during the incident and was immediately evacuated to a hospital in Tsafe for medical attention.

The successful operation prevented the terrorists from completing their mission in the community and further disrupted their activities in the area.
The latest intervention is part of the Nigerian Army’s continued operations against terrorism and other forms of criminality across the North-West.
Security forces have continued to intensify operations in vulnerable communities, relying on intelligence gathering and rapid response to identify and disrupt threats before they escalate.
The Army said the operation demonstrated its commitment to protecting civilians and denying terrorists the freedom to operate in communities across the region.
It also urged members of affected communities to continue providing security agencies with timely and credible information that could assist troops in responding to threats and protecting lives and property.
