The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the election victory of Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, dismissing the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP, and its candidate, Mohammed Barde.
The Independent National Electoral Commission ,INEC, had earlier declared Governor Inuwa Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress ,APC, as the winner of the gubernatorial poll on March 18, with 342,821 votes.
The lower court had previously dismissed the PDP’s petition against Governor Yahaya’s victory, ruling that the allegations of irregularities, including vote-buying, were baseless and lacked merit. The tribunal, presided over by Justice S.B. Belgore, struck out the case, stating that the petitioners failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their claims.
The affirmation of Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s election victory by the Court of Appeal further solidifies his mandate, following a legal challenge from the PDP. The ruling reinforces the earlier decision of the tribunal, highlighting the absence of substantiated evidence to warrant the nullification of the election results.
With this legal victory, Governor Inuwa Yahaya is expected to continue with the administration of Gombe State, as the court’s decision affirms the credibility of the electoral process that brought him into office.
The court’s ruling represents a significant development in the political landscape of Gombe State, providing stability and clarity on the electoral outcome.
