The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Safiyanu Dalhatu for allegedly beating his mother to death.

Although the incident occurred on February 24th, 2025, in the Abujan Kwata area of Bauchi, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil disclosed that the incident was reported to the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters by members of the local Peace and Security Committee.

The committee, responsible for maintaining peace and order in the community, received information about the alleged assault around 3pm on February 24th.

The report alleged that Safiyanu Dalhatu, a resident of Abujan Kwata, had attacked his biological mother, Salama Abdullahi, also a resident of the same area.

The attack, reportedly carried out with a heavy pestle, left the 40-year-old woman with severe injuries, including fractures to both hands.

Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Abdullahi Muazu, immediately dispatched a team of detectives to the scene. They found Salama Abdullahi injured and unconscious.

She was promptly transported to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where a medical professional sadly confirmed her death.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack stemmed from an altercation between the suspect and his mother. The motive behind the assault remains unclear, but the police are conducting a thorough investigation.

Safiyanu Dalhatu has been apprehended, and the pestle used in the alleged attack has been recovered and documented as evidence.

The state Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, has ordered a comprehensive investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department. Following the completion of the investigation, the suspect will be prosecuted.

The incident has sparked outrage and grief within the community, with residents expressing shock and disbelief at the brutal nature of the crime.

The Bauchi State Police Command has assured the public that justice will be served in this tragic case.
