Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, was filled with excitement on Monday as the Super Falcons returned home with the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy. The team made a stunning comeback in Rabat to win their 10th continental title — a new record.
The Falcons arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at around 2:10 pm. They were warmly welcomed by government officials, fans, and journalists. Emotions were high as the players rode through the city in an open-top bus, proudly displaying the WAFCON trophy.
Crowds gathered along major roads, including Airport Road, Berger Junction, Maitama, and Wuse Market, cheering and waving flags. The team later visited the Presidential Villa, where they were received by President Bola Tinubu.

The mood in Abuja was joyful and full of energy. President Tinubu praised the team for their fighting spirit and teamwork. He described their 3–2 comeback win over Morocco as “a spectacular performance that has lifted the spirit of the nation.”
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade was named Player of the Tournament. Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie won Goalkeeper of the Tournament, and coach Justine Madugu received the Coach of the Tournament award.
This latest victory proves once again that the Super Falcons are the top women’s football team in Africa. Their win has inspired many young athletes across Nigeria. The celebration in Abuja was not just about a trophy it was a show of national pride and unity.
