The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has arrested a suspect linked to the murder of a caregiver and a toddler in Dawaki, Abuja.

In a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the command received a report on July 23 about the sudden disappearance of 55-year-old nurse Mrs. Chinyere Anaene and a one-year, two-month-old child, Nanenter Yese.

While the caregiver’s husband was at the police station, he received a ₦250 million ransom demand via her phone.

Acting swiftly, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched an investigation using digital forensics, tracing the suspects to Yelwa and Uke in Nasarawa State.

On July 29, operatives arrested a school security guard who later confessed to conspiring with a friend (still at large) to commit the crime.

He lured Anaene into the school bathroom and strangled her. The toddler was taken from a classroom and killed similarly.

The suspect then placed the bodies in a sack, used a scavenger’s cart to transport them, and dumped them in a canal.

He later led officers to the location, where the remains were recovered.

SP Adeh expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured that justice would be served.

She emphasized the police’s determination to fully investigate and prosecute those involved in the crime.
