Nigerian music icon Tiwa Savage has revealed that her only experience of genuine, unconditional love has been shared with her son, Jamil, while being introspective about her romantic past.
In an emotional interview with British broadcaster Zeze Mills, the 45-year-old star said, “I’ve never felt true love except with my son. Looking back at my relationships, even my marriage, I realise it wasn’t love.”
She acknowledged that what she once thought was love was, in fact, infatuation—and kept trying despite repeated heartbreak, adding, “Maybe love isn’t for me in this lifetime” .

Tiwa’s most significant relationship was her marriage to her former manager, Tunji “TeeBillz” Balogun. The couple tied the knot in November 2013 in a traditional ceremony and sealed it with a white wedding in Dubai in April 2014.
The union quickly became tumultuous. In April 2016, Teebillz publicly accused Tiwa of infidelity, even naming musicians like Don Jazzy and 2Face, and he made disturbing allegations about her family.
In response, Tiwa accused him of drug addiction, financial irresponsibility, and emotional abandonment. The breakdown followed personal challenges including a miscarriage, which she said contributed to her realisation that their marriage was unsalvageable.
By December 2024, in an emotionally revealing interview, Tiwa shared on The Receipts Podcast that she did not initiate the divorce. Instead, Teebillz announced it publicly while she was suffering from postpartum depression, and she was left facing a severe public backlash.
She said, “I did not break up with him, but I was the one being attacked… my body wasn’t the same because I was dealing with postpartum and depression”.
