Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of Ike Ekweremadu, a former deputy Senate President of Nigeria, has been reportedly freed from a UK prison.
A former aide to Mr. Ekweremadu shared this information on Wednesday although there was no independent confirmation.8
Mr. Ekweremadu, along with his wife and a doctor, was convicted of organ trafficking by a UK court in March 2023.

After a six-week trial at the Old Bailey, they were found guilty of arranging the travel of a young man to the UK with the intention of exploiting him.
Mr. Ekweremadu was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison, while his wife received a jail term of four years and six months.

“Yes. She’s released now. She is currently in Nigeria,” the former aide who preferred to remain anonymous, stated.
Based on the UK court’s ruling, Beatrice has not served the entirety of her sentence of four years and six months.
It is currently unclear whether she was granted a pardon in the UK.
“I don’t have that information. But she’s out means she’s out finally. She will not go back to the UK,” the former aide added.
