The Benue State Police Command has confirmed freedom for the three female students abducted from the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture in Makurdi.

The students were taken on February 25, 2025, while returning to campus after a night study session.

The news was shared in a brief announcement by the Nigerian Television Authority on X on Thursday.

In the aftermath of the abduction, the university administration declared a one-week mid-semester break to address growing security concerns.

This was communicated in an internal memo titled “Security Situation on Campus,” which was issued the day after the incident and signed by the university’s Registrar, Dr. John David.

The National Association of Nigerian Students and the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, had urged the government to increase efforts for the students’ safe return.

Further details surrounding the circumstances of their release remain undisclosed.
