Graduates from several Nigerian universities have been blocked from NYSC mobilisation after JAMB flagged their admissions as fake.
In April 2024, about 14,000 graduates discovered that their records had been locked on the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System,CAPS, just a week before the NYSC Batch B Stream 1 mobilisation process was set to begin.
These students, who had accepted their offers years ago and appeared on the JAMB matriculation list, were surprised to see their CAPS status changed to “fake admission.”
Affected institutions include the University of Calabar, Imo State University, Ambrose Alli University, University of Benin, Ahmadu Bello University, Lagos State University, Edo State University, Iyamho, Federal University of Technology Akure, and Kwara State University.
“We sat for the JAMB exam, but our admission letters came directly from our schools. For years, we’ve been submitting our names for regularisation through the institutions, but nothing came of it,” said one of the affected graduates.
Students say JAMB later instructed them in their final year to complete the regularisation at its state offices. But many who complied reported poor treatment and were redirected back to their schools.
Despite the confusion, some students paid for the regularisation themselves and were issued official JAMB admission letters. Their names were subsequently listed on the matriculation portal.

“But just before NYSC mobilisation, our CAPS status changed to ‘fake admission.’ By June, the message disappeared and we were told to visit the nearest JAMB office,” a graduate narrated.
Many who went to JAMB offices said they were told the board’s system had been compromised by fraudsters, while others were sent back to their institutions without help.
JAMB spokesperson Dr Fabian Benjamin said only admissions processed through JAMB are valid. He blamed institutions for bypassing laid-down procedures and issuing illegal admissions.
The affected graduates are calling on JAMB and the Federal Ministry of Education to urgently intervene and unlock their records to enable NYSC mobilisation and further academic or career pursuits.
