British comedian and actor Russell Brand has formally pleaded not guilty to a series of serious sexual offence charges spanning over six years.
The 49-year-old entered his pleas at Southwark Crown Court in London on Friday, appearing composed and guarded as he stood in the dock flanked by security officers. Brand, dressed in a black suit and wearing dark sunglasses, made no comment beyond his legal responses.
He faces five charges involving four separate women, with alleged incidents taking place between 1999 and 2005 during the height of his entertainment career.
According to the prosecution:
-
Brand is accused of raping a woman in a Bournemouth hotel room while she was attending a Labour Party conference.
-
In a separate case, he allegedly orally raped and groped a TV employee after forcibly pulling her into a male toilet.
-
Another allegation involves a radio station worker, whom he allegedly shoved against a wall, kissed without consent, and groped.
-
The final charge relates to an incident where he is accused of indecently assaulting a woman after grabbing her forearm and trying to drag her into a toilet
The actor, who resides in Hambleden, Buckinghamshire, has been charged with one count each of rape, oral rape, and indecent assault, along with two counts of sexual assault.

A judge scheduled the trial to begin on June 3, 2026, and it is expected to last several weeks due to the number of complainants and the serious nature of the allegations.
These charges follow a high-profile joint investigation by Channel 4 Dispatches and the Sunday Times, which uncovered multiple claims of abuse against Brand. The revelations sparked national outrage and a wider conversation around misconduct in the British entertainment industry.
Since the allegations surfaced in 2023, Brand has consistently denied all wrongdoing. In a video message shared to his 11.2 million followers on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he claimed the accusations were part of a coordinated media attack and insisted he welcomed the opportunity to prove his innocence in court.
As the hearing concluded on Friday, Brand silently exited the courtroom, brushing past awaiting reporters and camera crews. He remains on conditional bail pending trial.
The case has drawn international attention due to Brand’s celebrity status, his past controversial public statements, and his large online following.
