As part of ongoing infrastructure development efforts in the Federal Capital Territory, Minister Nyesom Wike has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that residents affected by road construction in Guzape and Kpaduma communities are fully compensated.

The announcement was made during a site inspection tour of the construction projects, where Wike addressed concerns raised by community members about displacement and property loss.

The Minister stated that the government will uphold fairness and transparency throughout the compensation process. “We are not here to cause hardship for the people. Rather, we are here to bring development. Anyone whose property is affected will be duly compensated,” Wike assured.

He emphasized that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is dedicated to delivering infrastructure that meets global standards while also protecting the rights of citizens.

Construction in Guzape and Kpaduma is part of a broader road expansion initiative aimed at decongesting traffic and enhancing connectivity in Abuja.

Wike stated that these projects are strategically designed to open up underdeveloped areas and make them accessible for both commercial and residential purposes.

He explained that such infrastructural improvements will ultimately raise the standard of living, boost property values, and attract investment into the region.

Residents have expressed both optimism and anxiety about the developments. While many acknowledge the long-term benefits of improved road networks, concerns remain about the timeline and adequacy of compensation.

“We support development, but we want to be sure that our homes and businesses are not taken away without proper payment,” said Mrs. Ifeoma Uche, a local shop owner in Kpaduma.

In response, the Minister assured residents that enumeration of affected properties has already begun and that the FCT administration is collaborating with professional valuers to ensure that payments reflect fair market values. He added that no demolition would take place until compensation is fully paid to all eligible individuals.

Wike also appealed to the communities to cooperate with contractors and government officials to facilitate a smooth and timely completion of the projects. “We need your support and understanding. These roads will not only serve you but also future generations,” he said.

In addition to compensation, the FCT administration is considering the provision of resettlement options for those whose homes will be significantly impacted.

Discussions are ongoing with local leaders and stakeholders to ensure an inclusive and humane approach.

This latest assurance by Minister Wike highlights the FCT’s commitment to balancing infrastructural development with social responsibility.

As work progresses in Guzape and Kpaduma, residents hope the promises made will translate into concrete action that reflects both empathy and efficiency.
