A deadly attack occurred on Wednesday at a mining site in the Oreke-Okeigbo area of Kwara State, where gunmen opened fire on police officers and abducted two workers.
The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of two police officers and the kidnapping of a Chinese and a Nigerian.
Spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, Superintendent Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said the assault happened at approximately 6:30 p.m.
The victims of the fatal shooting were Assistant Superintendent of Police Haruna Watsai and Inspector Tukur Ogah. Both officers, attached to the 45 Police Mobile Force Unit in Abuja, were deployed to the site on official protective assignment. Their rifles were reportedly stolen by the attackers during the ambush.
In addition to the loss of the officers, two employees at the site were abducted. The kidnapped individuals have been identified as Mr. Sam Xie Wie, a Chinese national, and Mr. David Adenaiye, a Nigerian worker from Kogi State.
Their current whereabouts remain unknown, but efforts are underway to secure their release.
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Adekimi Ojo, condemned the assault in strong terms and reassured the public that tactical teams and intelligence units are actively pursuing leads.

The command has mobilized resources to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and that the abducted individuals are rescued safely.
In response to the incident, the police have intensified collaboration with other security agencies and local community stakeholders to reinforce security in the area.
