Popular Nigerian singer, Abiola Akinbiyi, better known as Bella Shmurda, has alleged that he was defrauded after paying $4 million for a property in Lagos.
Bella Shmurda is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who rose to prominence in 2019 with his breakout hit “Vision 2020”, and its remix featuring Olamide. Known for his distinctive sound and socially conscious lyrics, he is also the founder of Dangbana Republik, a collective of creatives in Lagos focused on community development and humanitarian initiatives.
The singer disclosed that he had recently discovered he had been scammed after learning that the property he purchased did not belong to the individual who sold it to him.
Bella made the claim during an emotional Instagram Live session on Tuesday, where he broke down in tears while appealing for assistance from the public.
Speaking during the livestream, the singer said he was devastated by the development and feared losing the money he had worked hard to earn.

“Nigeria, I need your help. I’m not doing okay right now. I spent $4 million of my own hard-earned money, only to find out I bought stolen property,” he said.
He further alleged that the individual who sold him the property had disappeared after receiving the payment. “And now the seller has disappeared. Please, help me. Someone step in. I’ve got nothing left,” he said. “I worked hard for years for this. I can’t lose $4 million like that.”
The singer, however, disclosed that he had contacted his lawyer to begin investigations into the matter and determine the next steps.
Bella Shmurda did not disclose the identity of the seller or provide further details about the property during the livestream.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and there has been no official statement from law enforcement authorities or any other party linked to the transaction.
The singer’s claim comes amid growing concerns over property related fraud in the country, where buyers are often advised to conduct thorough legal checks before completing real estate transactions.
