Abia State Governor Alex Otti has approved payment of the first phase of the medical expenses of veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu after her appeal for financial assistance to undergo three life-saving surgeries.

The intervention was announced on Tuesday by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Martins Justice, who disclosed that the approval covers only part of the actress’s medical costs.

He urged Nigerians to continue supporting Nwosu as she seeks to raise the remaining funds needed for her treatment.

In a post shared on X, Justice wrote, “His Excellency @alexottiofr has just stepped in on the health issues of our Nollywood legendary actress Mrs. Ngozi Nwosu to approve the first part of her medical bills.”

While expressing appreciation to the governor, Justice noted that the financial assistance does not cover the full cost of the treatment.

“While we sincerely appreciate His Excellency, we still appeal to kind-hearted Nigerians to please support her in any way possible you can,” he said.

He also thanked Otti on behalf of members of the creative industry, describing the intervention as timely and commendable.

The development comes days after the 62-year-old actress made an emotional appeal for public support, revealing that she had been hospitalized for three weeks and required ₦30 million to undergo three urgent surgeries.

In a video posted on her Instagram page, Nwosu said the rising cost of treatment had become overwhelming and appealed to fans, colleagues and well-wishers not to abandon her during the difficult period.

“My people, my fans and my family, I know that you’ve not seen me in circulation for some time. I’ve been hospitalized now for three weeks. Please, the thing has gone beyond my control,” she said.

“I need your help. Don’t let me die. I know that you people never forsake me. I’m begging you, my fans and family, don’t let me die because I am going through a lot of pain.”

The actress said she requires three surgeries and asked anyone willing to support her treatment to contact her management team.

Ngozi Nwosu is one of Nigeria’s most celebrated screen actresses, with a career spanning several decades. She is widely known for her roles in television sitcoms and Nollywood films and has earned recognition for her contributions to the Nigerian film industry.
