Sinners, a supernatural horror film starring Michael B. Jordan, dominated the Nigerian box office over the weekend, earning ₦79.5 million in ticket sales.
The announcement was made on Monday via an Instagram post by Film One Entertainment, the movie’s Nigerian distributor.
The company stated that Sinners achieved the highest revenue during the weekend, outperforming all other titles released in the same period.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film explores the story of twin brothers Elijah and Elias Moore—both portrayed by Jordan—who return to their Mississippi hometown in 1932 after World War I and years of working under gangster Al Capone. With money stolen from the Chicago mob, they launch a juke joint, hoping to rebuild their lives and restore lost dreams.
However, their fresh start takes a dark turn on opening night when a mysterious vampire named Remmick arrives, setting off a chain of horrific events. Elias, along with Elijah’s former lover, Mary, falls victim to the vampire’s bite, triggering a battle between family, evil, and destiny.
The film has been praised for its unique blend of horror, history, and blues-inspired music, with a score by Ludwig Göransson and contributions from artists such as Brittany Howard and Rod Wave.
It also features a strong supporting cast including Wunmi Mosaku, Hailee Steinfeld, and Delroy Lindo.
