Six members of the House of Representatives from Delta State have ditched the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for the All-Progressives Congress, APC, citing internal crises and need for alignment with state leadership
The lawmakers — Reps. Nnamdi Ezechi, Jonathan Ukodiko, Nicholas Mutu, Thomas Ereyitomi, Julius Pondi, and Victor Nwokolo — tendered their resignation letters during Tuesday’s plenary session. Speaker of the House, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, formally received and welcomed them into the ruling APC.
Rep. Ezechi, who represents Ndokwa East/Ndokwa West/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, said his decision was driven by a desire to support Delta State’s APC-led administration in advancing ongoing development efforts. “I had no choice but to join the performing governor of Delta to consolidate progress,” he stated.

In a parallel development, the Labour Party (LP) also suffered losses in the House as two lawmakers from Enugu State left the party for the PDP. Reps. Chidi Obetta and Dennis Agbo, who represent Nsukka/Igboeze South and Igboeze North/Udenu constituencies respectively, cited lingering internal disputes within the LP as their reason for switching allegiance.
The wave of defections signals growing political realignment in the National Assembly ahead of future electoral contests, especially as opposition parties continue to grapple with internal discord.
